Working with Children

Along with my work in creative wellness, I have spent more than 16 years working professionally with children, from infants through teenagers. I began at 18 as a YMCA camp counselor, then moved into the Y’s School Age Child Care Program, where I eventually became an elementary school Site Supervisor. I spent up to six hours a day supporting kids before and after school, writing curriculum, facilitating creative lessons, and providing a safe, fun space where children could be themselves — all while earning my Bachelor's degree in Marketing from Penn State.

Throughout college, I continued nannying and also volunteered with children with autism and Down syndrome, helping them create art, build confidence, and find joy in self-expression and spirit.

After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I worked as a full-time nanny until transitioning into my career field as a marketing director and account manager at local ad agencies in 2016. In 2019 I decided to pursue my dreams as an entrepreneur in the marketing field and started Avant Marketing, LLC. During Covid, I managed Avant and also continued working part-time with families as a nanny and babysitter until my daughter was born in 2021.

Later, I joined the non-profit organization We Rock Charlotte, where I still teach music and art to children and adults. It was there that my passions for social justice and supporting people of all ages, genders, orientations, backgrounds, and neurotypes really came together. The mission and people of We Rock Charlotte are truly magical: resonating positive change throughout our city and beyond.

Being 2e (AuDHD), I understand how neurodivergent brains learn, communicate, and process emotion. I meet kids where they are, with patience, humor, structure, flexibility, and a lot of compassion. Kids trust me because I see them, hear them, and celebrate who they are, not just who the world expects them to be. (If I'm being completely real, I am also a total and complete goof-ball who is still a kid at heart.)

Joscelyne

Hi. I’m Joscelyne — musician, artist, healing + wellness coach, certified hypnotherapy practitioner, and founder of The Resonance Collective. Teaching and practicing these skills brings me so much joy, as well as the fulfillment of my purpose: to affect positive change by helping humanity learn how to love and grow in mind, body, and spirit (even if I'm only starting here in Charlotte, NC). I believe in the healing power of creativity, self-awareness, and compassion. I believe that by nurturing creative drive and instilling confidence and wisdom in our youth, we will create a ripple effect of growth that carries us long into the future.

I’ve always been someone who feels deeply, thinks differently, and searches for meaning below the surface. My path here wasn’t simple. I grew up in a turbulent environment, worked and paid my way through life from a young age, survived difficult relationships, and experienced losses that completely reshaped me; all the while having undiagnosed AuDHD. I know what it’s like to live in survival mode, to feel misunderstood, to carry emotional weight, and to rebuild yourself more than once. I share this not for sympathy, but because it matters:

I understand what people are carrying: depression, grief,  anxiety, masked neurodivergence, trauma, exhaustion, the fear of not being “enough,” or often "too much." I understand what it is like to be a twice exceptional (2e) child, teenager, and adult who is seen as "really smart and talented, but really bad at managing their dysfunctional life."

I also understand resilience.

And transformation.

And what it means to finally find fulfillment in your life and become the person you wish you had.

Creativity has always been my anchor. Art and music helped me process the world long before I had words for what I was feeling. They weren’t hobbies. They were survival, expression, and identity. They taught me how to make meaning from chaos and how to stay connected to myself.

That foundation led me to the work I do today, and I couldn't be more grateful. I vow to help others love and grow through creativity, connection, compassion, and of course, resonance.

Music & Performance Experience

Musicianship

I have been a performer since age four when I first started learning to play piano. Born the daughter of two accomplished musicians, I grew up back stage of my parents' gigs and live performances — learning all there is to know about stage management and setup. I started singing in choir and performing in plays and musicals at age six. At 12 I took interest in guitar and taught myself how to play. At 13 I joined my church's band that performed every Sunday. At 15, I enrolled in my community's music school to develop more formal skills. At 16, I began writing and singing to my own music on guitar and piano. I also joined my high school's vocal jazz ensemble and went to States. At 16 and 17 I was earning leading female roles in my high school's musical performances. At 18 I started playing small gigs and open mics within my hometown — often filling in vocally with my father's various musical projects. At 19 I began recording background vocals for various artists in Green Valley Recording studio, where my father was a recording engineer and highly-accomplished session musician.

In college, I continued writing and covering various artists, performing all over my hometown and beyond as a solo artist and as part of various bands and duos. I played and sang for multiple genres, including: indie, pop, acoustic, hard rock and metal, country, and even church music. This is what has given me the edge I have in vocals — I have learned to cover and sing in almost every genre, ensuring I am able to teach a wide variety of students.

After I graduated college, I continued playing all over the various cities I lived, until moving to Charlotte in my early twenties.

Over the last 10 years in Charlotte, I have sang and played as a solo artist, a duo, and in various bands all across the city and surrounding areas. In 2024, I was invited to work as an instructor at We Rock Charlotte, where I continue to work to this day.

Performance Arts

Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I performed in choir, plays, and musicals. In elementary school, I became a ballet, tap, and jazz dancer for two years. In middle school I became a cheerleader — learning to use my voice and incorporate athleticism and hip-hop dance among vocal technique. In high school, I left cheering as my love of writing music and theater really developed. I starred in many plays in my hometown's community theater league, where I also taught acting and improv classes during the summer. In my junior and senior years in high school, I earned the lead roles in our yearly musicals, where I was able to combine all my musical and dance knowledge together.

In college, I continued to star in musical theater performances until I moved and transferred schools. I also joined the college's hip-hop dance team for a year, keeping my skills in tact and relevant. After transferring schools, I joined an adult ballet school where I partook in fun, beginner-level classes that lead to a performance at the end of the year.

I also earned Penn State Harrisburg's "Fantastic Female" award on behalf of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, for a special performance as Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" as well as philanthropic endeavors.

After college, my full time career and part-time musicianship took over most of my free time, so I did not get into a lot of theater afterwards. However, after working at We Rock Charlotte, I have been able to use my skills to help teach regular and camp students how to perform on stage.
